A restored primary coastal dune on Norton Point Beach is now in place and fencing is being installed along the newly relocated OSV trail. The milestone follows several weeks of sand dredging, dewatering, and dune construction.
Beach grass planting is being planned for the coming months, which will help to retain the sand, and limit erosion on the site. Below, find a photo gallery of images of the newly built dune:
The project comes after the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) awarded a $240,674 grant to the Town of Edgartown in August. The Trustees and Dukes County are project partners in this restoration work.
